Tubular geotextiles for coastal erosion protection

Strong sea currents or severe swells can cause significant damage to shorelines, compromising the natural landscape and tourist infrastructure. Properly designed geotextile tubes filled with sand dredged from the seabed can be an effective and sustainable solution to avoiding such problems. The possibility of using on-site material, instead of extracting, transporting, and installing inerts , coming from other beaches or caves, leads to savings of natural resources and also a real reduction in CO2 emissions. Requiring only a few design steps, the solution is easily integrated into the landscape and the seascape, thus preserving the natural look of the maritime environment. And finally, geotextile tubes are also a cost-effective solution since they significantly reduce the continuous maintenance required on shorelines and on tourist infrastructure.
