Municipal wastewater sludge dewatering with geotextile tubes

Geotextile tubes could be an effective and sustainable solution for sludge dewatering in small-medium scale municipal wastewater treatment plants. Compared with mechanical devices, like centrifuges, in many cases they can achieve a better dewatering performance, decreasing significantly the final amount of the dehydrated sludge to send to disposal. Geotextile tubes also strongly reduce energy consumptions and they need a minimum maintenance, because of the absence of electro-mechanical components. Finally, the reduction of the sludge volume, combined with their storage capacity, lowers the trucks traffic (and then CO2 emissions) due to the transportation of the dried material from the plant to its final disposal.
