How geosynthetics can contribute to a successful heat transition

The heating sector consumes as much energy as the electricity and transport sectors combined and has therefore huge potential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It´s decarbonization is essential for achieving European energy and climate ambitions.

Heat storage systems are a central element of the heat transition and bridge the time gap between heat generation and the use of heat. Large-scale thermal energy storages – such as a Pit Thermal Energy Storage (PTES) - play a crucial role in efficiently combining different renewable energy sources in district heating systems. The sealing systems and floating covers can be built with geosynthetics, creating a sustainable and cost-efficient solution.
