The reconstruction of the Express tramtine, a transportation system which is absolutely vital in the daily life of the town and its surroundings, was realized with geosynthetics to improve the ground stability, and reduce the use of ballast and the requirement for excavation work.
During the construction, a system for water drainage was installed, which ensures a constant soil property and the prevention of flooding. The use of geosynthetics for the filtration application will guarantee a long-term water flow of excess rainwater and groundwater.
Geosynthetic construction materials help create the conditions for long-term durability by improving platform stability and ensuring consistent long-term drainage. In addition to the reduction of ballast, the energy requirement is minimised to the level required during realisation.
