Massive CO2 Savings with Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil

GRS support structures such as bridge abutments and retaining walls are convincing due to their high stability. They can be built much faster than with conventional methods. The time saved means lower labour costs, as less personnel and equipment are needed. Because local soils can be used, further costs are also lower and CO2 is saved in comparison.

By using a GRS retaining structure instead of a concrete solution, CO2 emissions can be reduced by 80-85 % and energy consumption by 70-75 % (2015 life-cycle assessment by German Geosynthetics Industry Association). Natural planting is also possible, resulting in a better urban climate and habitat for animals.
