Geosynthetics often form part of a Green Roof system. Developers, planners and architects are increasingly recognizing the benefits of living roofs, as they provide an aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly solution for a roofing system; it is for this reason that their use has increased year on year. Green roof systems offer a number of benefits, and among others they:
· reduce the Carbon Footprint of the building
· improve storm water management by reducing runoff (SUDS)
· reduce the effect of the ‘Urban Heat Island’
· improve biodiversity in urban areas
· enhance the insulation properties of the roof
· provide additional space for urban use
