In May 2007, the road  that will lead to an Amphibolit mine in Piława Górna, Poland, crossed a very difficult area where the natural soil consisted of clay with very high water content. A geotextile solution was needed to ease the traffic during construction phase and on long term.

On the basis of information sent by the geologist the technical department of TenCate made a design proposal with the nonwoven TenCate Polyfelt® TS80.

TenCate Polyfelt TS80 is a mechanically bonded continuous-filament nonwoven from 100% UV stabilized polypropylene, characterized by a high resistance to installation damage, high water permeability and increased UV resistance.
TS offers excellent long-term performance due to the use of selected raw materials. The production process (continuous-filament) guarantees the consistent use of top quality materials.  Polypropylene is resistant to all the usual chemical and biological substances found in soils and building materials. Polypropylene is water insoluble and thus has no negative impact on ground water.

The geotextile acts as a separation and filtration layer avoiding the contamination of the base layer. It ensures the uniform thickness of the base course throughout the entire period during which it is subject to loads, by preventing the ingress of fill material into the fine-grained substrata. The separation geotextile enhances the compacting level of the fill, which provides improved and more uniform load distribution. It possesses balanced mechanical and hydraulic properties. This creates both resistance to installation damage and sufficient reinforcement, thus ensuring optimum separation and load distribution.

During construction heavy rain falls stop the works for two weeks in July. It was very difficult to move heavy vehicles on site. But the section were TenCate Polyfelt® TS 80 was used performed perfect and proved the necessity of using geotextiles in road construction.
